Wizengamot Meeting Minutes 2/9/2014

Portland Community Dance
Wizengamot Meeting Minutes  2/9/2014

Met at Avant after Sunday Dance.
Don, Julie, Dave, John, Jim,

Incorporation:
John gave us update. Two lawyers under consideration.

Dance Space for Feb 23rd:
Dave to take action on securing and alternative space.
Noted that temporary insurance cost $309 at New Years.

List of Responsibilities:
Add Safety to the list of issues.
Discussion of Safety in a physical sense, as avoiding injury.
Discussion of Safety as a feeling of security in our dance interactions.
Add some kind of “Peace council” concept for any needs of conflict resolution.
Wizzers encouraged to write up their description of tasks as a document to be an entry in a manual of responsibilities.

New Dancers:
brought up by Julie
How to interact and welcome new dancers. How to handle situations like a person coming to only to watch.
Encouragement of entire group to be inviting to newcomers.
(not decided how to impart this good thought to the group)

Injury Situations:
The DJ is in best postion to make the call whether to stop the Dance, alter the music, acknowledge the situation, or not.
Discussion of how to suggest to whole group that when someone is down, injured on the floor to assess whether the person has the care and attention needed and if so, not crowd the situation. Be on hand if needed, but if not, it may be just as helpful to keep on dancing to reduce the concern or embarrassment of the injured person.

Closing Circle
It was not decided how to get this (injury) message to the community at large. One thought was that each week at the closing circle one issue or topic be announced.
At closing circle we could ask the Wizzarmenians to raise their hands (as people to approach with any suggestions, problems, etc.)

Circle Dance
Harks back to the new people issue. Some activity, like a circle dance to bring everyone together as equal, also encourages eye contact.
Dance format could include a break at about 10:30 for a quick welcome (names then?) and then a circle dance.

Huddle
??? That’s all it says in my notes “huddle”
It may be referring to the idea that Wizengemotians should be prepared to huddle up at a dance if something happens needing a quick decision.

Meeting Adjourned

Starting Time
Some discussion did come up on the 9th as to whether we might start at 10:30 to widen the gap between the Zoomba’s and our group.
